Pune DLSA Secures Historic ₹3 Crore Commercial Dispute Settlement In First-Ever Lok Adalat Mediation
Pune, May 10, 2025 — In a landmark achievement for alternative dispute resolution in commercial cases, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Pune, successfully mediated the first-ever commercial dispute settlement under the Commercial Courts Act, 2018, during the National Lok Adalat held on May 10, 2025.
The historic resolution was made possible under the leadership of Mahendra K. Mahajan, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Pune, and Chairman of DLSA, along with Sonal S. Patil, Secretary, DLSA Pune, who provided strategic direction and supervision.
The dispute involved a claim of ₹4,90,37,439/- (including GST and interest) by Atlas Chemicals (Applicant) against ABC Inc. (Opposite Party). Following structured mediation and the cooperation of legal counsels from both sides, an amicable settlement was reached.
Settlement Terms:
- The Opposite Party agreed to pay a full and final settlement amount of ₹3,00,00,000/- to the Applicant.
- Payment was made through Pay Order No. 432651 dated May 7, 2025, issued by Standard Chartered Bank, Mumbai.
- The Applicant confirmed receipt of the amount and formally waived any future claims related to the matter.
Both parties also agreed to comply with statutory requirements under the Income Tax Act and GST Act, including the mutual exchange of necessary credit and debit notes.
The case, which involved elderly litigants including Applicant Suresh Kumar, was resolved under the expert guidance of trained Advocate-Mediator Adv. Atul B. Gunjal. Legal representation was provided by Adv. Firodiya and Adv. Abhishek Bora on behalf of the Applicant.
This resolution marks a significant milestone for the Lok Adalat system, reaffirming its role in delivering timely, cost-effective, and peaceful dispute resolution, especially in complex commercial matters.
