In Pune, it is now mandatory for individuals consuming alcohol in clubs, restaurants, and bars to have a drinking license. These licenses can be obtained directly from the excise department, online, or at the venue itself.

This enforcement comes in response to the tragic Porsche accident on May 19th in Kalyani Nagar, which claimed the lives of two IT engineers, including a woman. In light of this incident, the Pune Excise Department has initiated a significant crackdown on restaurants and clubs in the region. As part of this drive, 32 establishments in Pune, PCMC, and surrounding rural areas have been sealed. The ongoing efforts aim to enforce strict regulations to prevent similar unfortunate incidents in the future.

Officials from the Pune Excise Department confirmed that additional actions are being taken against clubs and restaurants. The crackdown began on Tuesday night when State Excise Department officials launched an inspection drive, resulting in numerous cases being filed across various locations.

Pune Excise Official informed, that it is mandatory for individuals consuming alcohol in clubs, restaurants, and bars to have a drinking license. These licenses can be obtained directly from the excise department, online, or at the pub. Patil also noted that only individuals over the age of 25 are permitted to consume hard liquor.
