Pune: Elevated Metro Extension To Kondhwa–Yewalewadi May Be Ready By 2030-31, DPR Work In Progress
Pune, February 27, 2026: Residents of Kondhwa, NIBM road and Yewalewadi may see Metro connectivity by 2030-31, provided required approvals are secured on schedule. Officials from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) confirmed that groundwork for a proposed 20km elevated corridor from Shivajinagar to Yewalewadi is currently underway.
The planned route will pass through Camp and Pulgate, with an additional spur connecting NIBM to Undri. The extension is intended to link with the larger Metro Line 3 corridor being developed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, stated a news report published in Times Of India.
Soil testing vehicle was seen last week near Raheja Vista Premiere in Mohamadwadi as well as Kad Nagar Chowk in Undri.
While the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar stretch is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, officials said the proposed 20km extension toward Kondhwa and Yewalewadi will be executed directly by Maha Metro, in line with the state government’s decision.
Atul Gadgil, Director (Works) at Maha Metro, stated that consultants have been appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Field assessments and alignment planning are in progress. The alignment is expected to begin at Shivajinagar, move toward the Collectorate, continue through Camp and Pulgate, and then proceed to Kondhwa and Yewalewadi. A branch line has been proposed from Jyoti Square to NIBM Junction and onward to Undri near Bishop’s School. Stations are likely to be spaced approximately one kilometre apart.
The DPR, for which consultants were appointed about two months ago, is anticipated to be completed by May or June. Once ready, the proposal will be placed before the general body of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for approval before being forwarded to the state government. After state clearance, it will require approval from the Centre. Officials indicated that if all statutory permissions are granted without delay, the corridor could become operational by 2030-31.
The demand for Metro connectivity in the Kondhwa–Yewalewadi belt has been growing amid rapid urban expansion and increasing traffic congestion.
The state government had earlier cleared additional Metro corridors, including a Khadakwasla–Hadapsar–Swargate–Kharadi route aimed at strengthening east-west connectivity. Officials have also indicated that future plans include extending the Hadapsar corridor toward Loni Kalbhor and Saswad under Line 4, potentially improving access to the proposed Purandar airport.
Authorities maintain that, given the pace of development in Pune’s southern suburbs, a dedicated Metro corridor would provide a sustainable and long-term transport solution.
