Pune, December 9, 2024:
A hunger strike erupted outside Jehangir Hospital in Pune after the hospital allegedly refused to release the body of a 35-year-old woman who passed away on Sunday morning. The family claimed they were asked to clear pending medical bills before the body could be handed over, sparking outrage among relatives and community members.

The family stated they had already paid over ₹52 lakh for the woman’s treatment, which included a kidney transplant. Despite this, the hospital reportedly demanded the remaining dues, leading the grieving family to protest alongside others outside the hospital gates.

Protesters called the hospital’s actions “inhumane and insensitive,” demanding intervention from local authorities to address the matter. The incident has raised broader concerns over hospital practices and respect for human dignity in such situations.
