Pune: FDA Seals Siya Goyal Family’s Pune Spice Shop Over Suspected Adulteration, Seizes ₹8 Lakh Stock
Pune, July 15: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sealed a spice shop linked to the family of Siya Goyal, one of the accused in the Ketan Agarwal murder case, during an inspection at Market Yard in Pune. The action was carried out by a team led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
According to the FDA, B.G. Goyal & Company, owned by Siya Goyal’s father, was found to be allegedly operating without the required licence amendments and was suspected of selling substandard food products. Officials also found violations related to food labelling and regulatory compliance during the inspection.
As part of the operation, the FDA seized over 4,000 kg of food products worth approximately ₹8 lakh. Samples of turmeric powder, sesame seeds, and soybean chunks were collected for laboratory analysis to determine whether the products meet prescribed food safety standards and whether any adulteration is involved.
The department stated that the stock was seized on suspicion of adulteration and due to deficiencies in labelling. Since the establishment allegedly failed to comply with mandatory legal provisions and had not updated the required licence details, the FDA has issued a notice directing the business to remain closed until further orders.
The inspection is part of the FDA’s ongoing statewide drive against food adulteration and regulatory violations. The department has intensified checks on essential food items, particularly milk and dairy products, to ensure consumer safety.
The FDA has also been taking strict action against those involved in the sale of prohibited products such as gutkha, pan masala, and tobacco, while continuing its crackdown on food adulteration across Maharashtra.
