Pune Forest’s Clean Hills – Green Hills initiative appeals for citizens participation

Over 50,000 saplings will be planted in this initiative to make Pune hills green and clean.

Pune Forest Division has taken up the initiative of making Pune Hills spread over an area of 136 hectare (Reserved forest areas) in Bhamburda, Vadgaon, Baramati clean and green. On July 2, mega tree plantation drive will be held on various hills in urban areas. Citizens of Pune are appealed to participate in this drive. The information was shared by Rahul Patil, deputy conservator of forests. Every year during monsoon Forest Festival is held where indigenous trees are planted.

In this initiative over 50,000 saplings shall be planted. The forest department had begun this initiative by holding clean up drives on June 4.

“From July 2 the forest department shall begin with tree plantation in reserved forest areas in urban areas such as Kothrud, Parvati, Malwadi Tekdi areas where 26,000 saplings shall be planted and plans are to plant over 50,000 saplings,” informed Rahul Patil, deputy conservator of forests, Pune forest division.

In Vadgaon and Baramati forests areas over 1 lakh saplings are to be planted. The forest department plans to plant indigenous trees which are on the verge of extinct. It appealed for citizens participation in the initiative.
