Pune: Former NCP Corporator's Son Allegedly Involved in Drunk Driving Incident, Case Filed
Mundhwa: Saurabh Gaikwad, the son of former NCP corporator Bandu Gaikwad, was involved in a serious accident early Tuesday morning, reportedly due to drunk driving. The incident occurred at Z Corner on Manjari-Mundhwa Road around 5 AM, leading to injuries for both Saurabh and the driver and cleaner of a tempo transporting chickens.
According to police reports, Saurabh Gaikwad was driving his Harrier car home to Mundhwa when he collided head-on with an oncoming poultry farm tempo. Witnesses at the scene reported that Gaikwad appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, which likely contributed to the accident.
The impact of the collision resulted in injuries to the tempo’s driver and cleaner, identified as Raja Shaikh. Both were immediately rushed to Varad Life Hospital for treatment. The driver sustained injuries to his forehead and shoulder, while the cleaner suffered abrasions on his face and a leg injury. Saurabh Gaikwad also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The Pune police have registered a case against Saurabh Gaikwad in connection with the incident. His father, Bandu Gaikwad, is currently an active member of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This incident has sparked public outrage, highlighting ongoing issues with drunk driving in the city.
Over the past two months, Pune has seen a significant increase in traffic accidents, drug-related cases, and other criminal activities.
This latest accident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws and more robust measures to curb the rising crime rates in Pune.
