Pune: Garbage Crisis On Balewadi Service Road Prompts Urgent Action By PMC Officials
Pune, March 24, 2026: A growing garbage problem on the service road near Balewadi-Mhalunge Stadium along the Pune-Mumbai National Highway has drawn the attention of local authorities, prompting immediate intervention and directives for corrective measures.
During an on-site inspection in Balewadi, Municipal Corporator Amol Balwadkar reviewed the situation firsthand, interacted with sanitation workers, and assessed the severity of the issue. Concerned over the deteriorating conditions, he contacted senior officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Solid Waste Management Department, including senior officer Sapkal, urging swift action to clear the accumulated waste.
Instructions were issued to deploy necessary resources such as garbage collection vehicles, JCB machines, and other machinery. Additionally, directions were given to install temporary sheet fencing around the site and ensure sanitation workers are equipped with adequate tools and materials to carry out the cleanup efficiently.
To prevent recurrence of such issues, Balwadkar also emphasized the need for proper budget allocation by the civic body for long-term waste management solutions.
Further, immediate arrangements were ordered for sanitation workers at the site, including provision of a clean space for meals, toilet facilities, and access to drinking water. Health officials DSI Bhoir and SI Ukirde were instructed to ensure these basic amenities without delay.
The matter was also escalated to Aundh-Baner Regional Office Assistant Commissioner Vijay Nayakle, with a call for urgent and coordinated action to resolve the issue.
The initiative comes under the “Maza Prabhag, Swachh Prabhag” My Ward, Clean Ward campaign aimed at improving cleanliness and sanitation standards across the city.
