Pune Girl Clinches Gold at National Karate Championship, Earns Spot in Team India for South Asian Meet
Pune: Ira Subramanian, a Grade 4 student of SNBP World School, Rahatani, has brought pride to Pune and Maharashtra by winning gold at the 4th KIO Nationals – Cadet, Junior & Sub Junior Karate Championship 2025, held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand from June 12 to 15.
Representing Maharashtra in the Sub Junior (9 Years) Female Kumite -25 kg category, Ira emerged victorious after a challenging series of five matches against competitors from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh.
Her semifinal bout against Punjab’s representative was particularly dramatic—trailing 0-5, Ira staged a remarkable comeback to win 7-5, sealing the victory with just 16 seconds left on the clock. Her performance demonstrated extraordinary resilience, technical skill, and composure under pressure.
Her gold medal significantly contributed to Maharashtra’s third-place finish in the overall medal tally at the national-level tournament.
Ira’s achievement has earned her selection to represent India at the upcoming South Asian Karate Championship in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Having started karate training at the age of six, Ira has consistently excelled through hard work and dedication. She currently trains at SNBP Karate Champions under the guidance of coach and mentor Bhavinya Aiwale.
This young athlete’s journey continues to inspire, as she now prepares to compete on the international stage.
