Pune, July 23, 2026: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has appealed to owners of Bharat Series (BH) registered vehicles to pay their motor vehicle tax within the prescribed deadline to avoid penalties.

According to the RTO, vehicles registered under the BH series are required to renew their motor vehicle tax payment after the completion of the initial two-year tax period from the date of registration.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) introduced the Bharat Series vehicle registration system through a notification issued on August 26, 2021, allowing eligible vehicle owners to pay road tax on a two-year basis instead of making a one-time state-specific payment.

The Pune RTO stated that once the two-year tax period expires, vehicle owners must deposit the applicable tax within the stipulated period. Failure to pay the tax even after a grace period of seven days will attract a penalty of ₹100 per day until the dues are cleared.

The transport department has advised BH series vehicle owners to check their tax payment schedules and complete the process on time to avoid additional financial burden.
