Pune: Imagine being in a road accident and someone rushes to help—what a relief that would be! To honour such timely heroes, the government has launched the ‘Raah-Veer’ scheme, which will now reward individuals who assist accident victims with ₹25,000.

The initiative is being implemented by the Transport Department, and a committee chaired by the District Collector will review and verify the cases. The Office of the Transport Commissioner will oversee the reward disbursement process.

The scheme aims to encourage citizens to come forward and provide immediate medical assistance to road accident victims. Often, delays in treatment cost lives. By recognising and rewarding these “angels of the road,” the government hopes to motivate more people to act quickly and responsibly during such emergencies.

Recently, official notification letters were issued jointly by the Mumbai Transport Commissioner’s office and the Pune District Collector, outlining the plan for implementation.

Key Features of the ‘Raah-Veer’ Scheme:

  1. ₹25,000 reward for individuals who offer timely help to road accident victims.
  2. The reward will be given to those who help transport the injured to a hospital within the “golden hour”—the first crucial hour after an accident.
  3. District-level committees, headed by the respective District Collectors, will be formed to identify and verify such helpers.
  4. state-level oversight committee will monitor the scheme’s implementation across Maharashtra.
