Pune Air Action Hub is set to launch its innovative “Green Farewell” campaign, aimed at promoting eco-friendly cremation practices and reducing pollution. The initiative encourages citizens to opt for gas or electric cremation after their passing, significantly reducing harmful emissions and preserving trees.
According to Sharmila Deo, Senior Program Associate of Parisar and member of Pune Air Action Hub, traditional wood-burning cremation methods release significant emissions and put pressure on the environment. “One cremation requires wood from two trees, contributing to deforestation and air pollution,” she explained.
The campaign seeks to mitigate these issues by raising awareness about eco-friendly alternatives. “By choosing gas or electric cremation, individuals can leave a lasting legacy of a cleaner, greener environment,” Deo emphasized.
The launch event is scheduled for October 1st at Patrakar Bhavan, Navi Peth, Pune, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Citizens are invited to attend and learn more about sustainable cremation options.
