Pune, May 19, 2026: A major alleged financial fraud involving Muslim devotees planning to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage has surfaced in Pune’s Kondhwa area, with a travel agency operator accused of collecting crores of rupees and absconding before the scheduled departure of pilgrims.
According to reports, the alleged scam was linked to an establishment identified as Al-Khalifa Tours & Travels. The matter came to light after several devotees claimed they had paid large sums for Hajj travel arrangements but were left stranded when the agency allegedly shut down operations.
As per information shared by the Instagram handle khabar_nama_punecity, the agency’s director, Ameer Shaikh, is alleged to have fled along with his family after collecting money from pilgrims.
The affected devotees were reportedly scheduled to depart for the Hajj pilgrimage on May 17. However, as the travel date approached, the office of the agency was found locked, and repeated attempts to contact Shaikh allegedly failed.
Following the incident, the victims approached Kondhwa Police Station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case against Ameer Shaikh and further investigation into the alleged fraud is underway.
