Pune: Hinjawadi To Shivajinagar Metro Line 3, First Trial Run Successfully Completed
Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Deadline Missed, Partial Operations Likely Before March 2026
Pimpri, July 4, 2025: The much-anticipated Pune Metro Line 3 project, connecting Maan, Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, achieved a major milestone on Friday as the first trial run was successfully conducted from Maan Depot to PMR 4 station.
The ambitious project, developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model between the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (led by Tata and Siemens Group), has reached 87% completion, with the remaining work now in its final stages.
Work on this crucial 23.3 km-long corridor, featuring 23 stations and seamless interchanges with existing metro lines, began on November 25, 2021, and is scheduled for completion by March 2026.
Designed to provide fast and safe transportation for Pune’s growing population, the project has already received four modern metro train sets. Each train has three fully air-conditioned coaches with a total passenger capacity of approximately 1,000 people and will operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h.
The successful trial run marks a significant step towards the operational launch of Metro Line 3, which is expected to play a key role in reducing traffic congestion along this vital corridor.
