Pune, July 30, 2024: In an unexpected twist following the launch of the Ladki Bahin Yojana, a woman from Shivajinagar finds herself facing a divorce after her husband saw her photo on a promotional poster for the scheme. The billboard, prominently displayed in the constituency, featured images of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole, and two women. The woman’s husband, upon seeing her image, assumed she had participated in the scheme without his knowledge and immediately demanded a divorce. This left the woman, who has two children, in a precarious situation.

Bhim Army office bearer Sitaram Gangwane brought this issue to light, sharing his findings on Facebook. In his post, Gangwane included videos and photos of the billboard, accusing MLA Siddharth Shirole of using the women’s images without their consent. He wrote, “As soon as the husband came to know that the sister has two daughters, he demanded a divorce from his wife. Now where will the sister go with the two children?”

Despite the woman’s efforts to report the unauthorized use of her photo to the Police Commissionerate, she initially received no attention. Gangwane intervened, personally escorting her to meet the Joint Commissioner and ensuring that her complaint was filed.

This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the ethical responsibilities of public representatives and the potential consequences of unauthorized use of individuals’ images in political promotions. The Ladki Bahin Yojana, intended to support women, has inadvertently caused significant personal turmoil for one of its unintended participants.
