Pune: Husband Breaks Wife’s Nose After She Refuses to Sign Flat Sale Papers
Property disputes within a household took a violent turn in Pune when a 47-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife for declining to sell their jointly owned apartment. Kothrud police initiated legal action on Thursday following the Wednesday morning incident, which left the victim with significant facial injuries at their residence on Paud Road.
The conflict involves a flat situated in the Sararth Sinclair society in Warje. Both the 45-year-old complainant and her husband, identified as Pramod Basavaraj Handigund, hold legal ownership of the property. While the husband was keen on finalizing a deal to sell the residence, his wife remained opposed to the transaction, leading to a prolonged disagreement between the two. Around 8:45 AM on Wednesday, the argument reached a breaking point. When the woman reiterated her stance and refused to provide her signature on the necessary sale documents, the situation took a dark turn as the husband began shouting a barrage of verbal abuse.
What began as a verbal spat escalated rapidly when Handigund allegedly lost his composure. According to the police report, he struck her forcefully in the face with a clenched fist, an impact severe enough to fracture her nasal bone and cause heavy bleeding. The commotion drew the attention of neighbors, who quickly intervened and moved the injured woman to a hospital for emergency medical care. Following her treatment, she approached the authorities to file a formal complaint against her husband for the physical attack.
Senior Inspector Sandeep Deshmane of the Kothrud police station confirmed that a formal case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The husband faces charges under sections 115 (2) and 117 (2) for voluntarily causing hurt and grievous hurt, as well as section 352 relating to domestic violence.
