Pune, May 27, 2025: A serious public health concern has emerged in Pisoli, where residents have reported the presence of an illegal waste segregation and management unit operating directly behind Hill Green High School.
The activity, alarmingly close to the school’s boundary wall, has sparked fear among locals, especially with the arrival of the monsoon and renewed concerns over respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19.
According to a concerned resident who wished to remain anonymous, the waste site has been functioning for a considerable period but remains largely unnoticed due to its hidden location away from main roads.
“Despite the visible threat to the school community and residents, the issue continues unchecked. Even after I sent an anonymous letter to the school two months ago, there has been no action,” the resident stated.
The proximity of this waste dump to an educational institution has heightened fears of health risks to children and staff, with stagnant rainwater and rotting waste likely to worsen the situation in the coming weeks. The resident also claimed that many locals are hesitant to raise their voices out of fear, and the silence from the school administration has further added to their frustration.
The complainant has appealed to authorities to intervene immediately and shut down the illegal operation. Photographic evidence from March has been shared to support the claims.
Residents now look to local officials and civic bodies to take urgent and decisive steps to address the issue before it leads to a larger public health and environmental crisis.
