Pune: Income Tax Raids Conducted At Over 30 Locations of Ramee Hotel Group At Mumbai And Other Locations
Pune, December 2, 2025: The Income Tax Department has launched raids at more than 30 locations of the internationally renowned Ramee Hotel Group in Mumbai and Pune. The operation, which began early Tuesday morning, targets the group’s establishments and offices, including those of founder Raj Shetty and other key executives, in connection with a tax evasion case. Police presence was also observed outside the Ramee Hotel in Dadar during the raids.
The Ramee Hotel Group, founded in 1985 by Raj Shetty, operates hotels, resorts, and apartments not only in India but also in countries such as Bahrain, Dubai, and Oman. Currently, the group has 52 properties across India and the Gulf region. Raj Shetty, who started the group after moving to Dubai at the age of 18, serves as the chairman and managing director. He has also been recognized in Forbes Middle East magazine as one of the top 100 Indian leaders in the UAE.
These raids are not the first enforcement actions against the Ramee Group. In June 2019, the Matunga police had raided the Ramee Guestline Hotel in Dadar East, uncovering a cricket betting racket on the seventh floor and leading to the arrest of four individuals, including a police sub-inspector.
Earlier, in 2012, authorities had raided the Ramee Guestline Hotel’s discotheque “Madness” in Khar for staying open beyond permitted hours, which also exposed a prostitution racket. Ten employees were arrested, and 16 women were rescued in that case.
The current search operation by the Income Tax Department aims to uncover further details regarding alleged tax evasion by the Ramee Hotel Group, and its outcome is being closely monitored.
