More than a month after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) raised concerns about water hyacinth clogging Baby Canal, the Khadakwasla irrigation division has finally requested its mechanical department to provide machinery for its removal.

In December 2024, the PMC health department alerted the PMC environment department about the severe water hyacinth growth, which was causing stagnant water and mosquito breeding in areas such as Sade Satra Nali, Ansari Phata, Mahadev Nagar, Ghule Vasti, and Kalpataru Society. The environment department then asked the Khadakwasla irrigation division to take action, citing the canal’s jurisdiction under the division. However, the irrigation division initially claimed that maintaining water cleanliness was the PMC’s responsibility.
