Pune: Kondhwa Resident Triggers Panic At PMC Office After Threatening Suicide Over Tax Bill Issue
Pune | February 14, 2026: A tense and dramatic incident created panic at the Pune Municipal Corporation on Friday afternoon when a resident from Kondhwa allegedly pulled out a revolver and threatened to shoot himself inside the civic body’s tax collection department.
According to official sources, the man had visited the municipal office to get his pending tax bill processed. However, after repeated visits over several days without resolution, he reportedly became extremely frustrated and accused officials of deliberately delaying his case.
The situation escalated on Friday, which was the final day of the Abhay Yojana (tax relief scheme). Witnesses said the resident, feeling helpless and ignored, suddenly took out a revolver and placed it against his head, threatening to commit suicide. This led to chaos and fear among staff and citizens present in the office.
Security guards and municipal staff acted swiftly, restraining the man and preventing any harm. He was safely disarmed, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
Sources revealed that the individual had been making continuous rounds of the tax department for several days to get his bill cleared, but alleged that officials were avoiding action on his application. His frustration ultimately led to the extreme step.
Authorities are now investigating the incident, while security arrangements within the municipal office premises are being reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
