Pune, May 19, 2026: A shocking koyta (sharp weapon) attack near the Rajmata Underpass in the Dattanagar area under Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station limits has once again raised serious concerns about rising street violence in Pune.
According to preliminary information, an auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly stopped on the road by a group of attackers and assaulted repeatedly with a koyta in broad daylight. The incident reportedly occurred while the driver was passing through the Rajmata Underpass area in his rickshaw.
A video of the attack has gone viral on social media, creating fear among residents and commuters. Eyewitnesses said the attackers surrounded the driver and began striking him mercilessly without warning. The victim reportedly tried to defend himself, but the attackers were highly aggressive.
Police suspect that the assault may have been linked to an old dispute or personal rivalry. The attack caused panic in the area as several passersby and motorists witnessed the violent incident.
In recent months, Pune has witnessed a rise in koyta gang-related crimes, including assaults, vandalism, and public intimidation, particularly involving youngsters. The latest incident has intensified public concerns over law and order in the city.
