Pune, March 16, 2026: Kumar Sublime Co-operative Housing Society (CHS) Ltd in Kondhwa has achieved a major milestone in sustainable living by becoming 100% electricity self-reliant through solar energy. The society commissioned an 80 kW grid-connected solar power plant on May 10, 2025, enabling it to completely meet its internal electricity needs without depending on the traditional power grid.

Within just 10 months of operation, the solar plant has generated 1 lakh units of clean energy, significantly reducing electricity expenses and environmental impact. The initiative has resulted in financial savings of approximately ₹18 lakh for the housing society.

Due to the strong performance of the solar system, the society has also become a “prosumer,” meaning it generates more electricity than it consumes at times and exports surplus green energy back to the grid through net metering.

Significant Environmental Impact

The clean energy generation has contributed to notable environmental benefits. According to the society, the production of 1 lakh units of solar power has prevented 39,184 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to driving 282,988 kilometres using clean energy or planting nearly 3,000 trees.

Recognition and Flagging of Milestone

The milestone of generating one lakh units of solar power was formally flagged on March 14, 2026, by Dr Santosh Aghav. The event was also attended by Maneesha Koshti and Mrudgandha Joshi.

Focus on Sustainable Living

Speaking about the initiative, Mr Avelino Noronha, Secretary of Kumar Sublime CHS, said the society aims to go beyond solar power and build a comprehensive eco-friendly ecosystem.

He stated that apart from the solar power plant, the society has also achieved complete self-reliance in Solid Waste Management (SWM), reflecting its commitment to responsible and sustainable urban living.

“Our goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem that can serve as a model for other housing societies in Pune,” Noronha said.

By integrating renewable energy with effective waste management, Kumar Sublime CHS is emerging as a model for sustainable residential communities in the city and contributing to India’s broader push toward clean energy and environmental responsibility.
