Pune: Light To Moderate Rainfall With Thunderstorms Likely Across Maharashtra In Coming Days: IMD Issues Caution

Maharashtra Monsoon Slows Down: Light Rains Ahead, Kharif Preparations Delayed
Pune, May 13, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder across various parts of Maharashtra over the next few days. The weather pattern is expected to include intermittent intense rain spells and short-duration gusty winds, particularly in isolated to scattered areas of the state.
According to IMD officials, these unstable weather conditions are likely due to moisture-laden winds and rising atmospheric instability. While the rains may bring some relief from the summer heat, the IMD has urged residents to exercise caution during thunderstorm activity.

“Citizens are advised not to stand under trees or in open areas during lightning activity. Such weather events can be dangerous, especially when accompanied by strong winds,” the advisory stated. The department emphasized the need for safety, particularly in rural regions where people may seek shelter under trees during sudden rainfall.
The regions expected to experience rainfall include parts of Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nagpur, and surrounding districts. Urban areas may also see temporary waterlogging and traffic disruptions due to intense short-term showers.
