Pune News: Steel Structure For Metro Pillar Collapses Near Chinchwad Station, Damages Multiple Vehicles
PUNE: A steel reinforcement framework erected for a metro pillar collapsed late Monday night near Chinchwad Station, triggering panic among commuters. The incident occurred around 11 PM and is part of the ongoing Pune Metro construction work in the area.
The steel structure came crashing down onto the grade separator below, creating a loud noise and damaging several vehicles that were passing underneath at the time. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as commuters rushed to safety.
Preliminary information indicates that three to four cars sustained damage due to the falling debris. While there were no reports of injuries, the incident has raised serious safety concerns regarding the quality and supervision of metro construction work.
Some vehicle owners have approached Pimpri Police Station to file formal complaints about the damages.
Authorities are expected to launch a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and identify any lapses in safety protocols. Officials from Maha-Metro and local civic agencies are likely to conduct technical inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The area around the collapse site has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
