Pune: List Of Nominated Councillors Announced In PMC; BJP Gets 7 Seats, NCP 2
Pune, March 9, 2026: The list of nominated councillors for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been announced following the formation of the new civic body after the municipal elections. Political parties have finalised the names for the available nominated positions, bringing the selection process to its final stage.
As per the allocation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured seven nominated seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will have two representatives. The Indian National Congress has been allotted one seat. Both the BJP and NCP announced their nominees on Monday.
The BJP has selected seven candidates for the nominated councillor posts: Nilesh Kondhalkar, Priyanka Shendge, Vishwas Nanaware, Rajendra Kakade, Ravi Salegaonkar, Jayprakash Purohit and Uday Lele.
Meanwhile, the NCP has nominated Rakesh Kamthe from the party’s student wing and former mayor Dattatray Dhankawade for the two positions allocated to it.
Selection Process
The procedure for appointing nominated councillors is defined under Section 5(2) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949. According to the provisions, the municipal commissioner consults with leaders of elected parties based on their strength in the civic body to determine the nominated members.
Once political parties recommend candidates, the commissioner discusses the names with the mayor and group leaders before presenting them before the general body for approval. The council has the authority to reject any nominee, but must provide reasons for doing so.
Following amendments to the law in 2012, 2021 and 2023, certain professionals such as doctors, lawyers and chartered accountants are also allowed to apply directly to the commissioner without political recommendations. Representatives of eligible non-governmental organisations can also submit applications.
Officials said the civic administration received between 700 and 800 applications for the nominated councillor positions. Applicants have claimed that the administration must provide reasons if their applications are rejected.
