Pune: Man attacks mother, brother over refusing to give money for alcohol

In a disturbing incident, a 28-year-old man attacked his mother with a sickle after she refused to give him money to drink alcohol. His brother also sustained injuries. The incident occurred in the Ramoshi Wadi area of Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, on Saturday, January 25. The accused has been identified as Ganesh Arun Jadhav.
According to the information received by police, Ganesh was an alcohol addict and returned home at 7 in the evening. He demanded Rs 200 from his mother to buy liquor. Tired of his drinking habits, she refused which made him furious. He started beating her. His elder brother, Digambar (age 35 years), seeing the dispute growing, intervened, but Ganesh attacked him also with a sickle, hitting him in the head. His mother also suffered head injuries while trying to intervene.
The neighbours heard about the incident and informed the police. The police reached the spot.
The injured mother and brother were immediately rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. The police arrested Ganesh for attempted murder and are investigating the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Himmat Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner Vitthal Dabde, and Senior Police Inspector Vijayanand Patil of Chaturshringi police station visited the crime scene and started the investigation.
Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Dhamne is handling the case. The police are probing the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the attack. This incident highlights the dangers of alcohol addiction and the importance of seeking help for those struggling with substance abuse.
