Pune Man Poisons Wife, 9-Year-Old Son; Attempts Suicide Over 12 Lakh Debt and Harassment by Moneylenders in Chikhali
A 45-year-old man from Pune’s Chikhali area allegedly poisoned his wife and young son to death on Saturday before attempting suicide due to mounting pressure from moneylenders. The man reportedly gave his 36-year-old wife and 9-year-old son sleeping pills, resulting in their deaths. He then tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan in their apartment.
Rescue and Police Action
The man was found alive in his flat by police after neighbors, alerted by his elder son, contacted them. He was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. The elder son, 14, who was staying in Mumbai with a relative, received a disturbing message from his father on Friday night, detailing his plan.
In a panic, the boy called neighbors to check on the family
Four individuals have been booked for criminal intimidation after the man accused them of harassing him over loan repayments.
Details of Debt and Harassment
According to the police, the man had borrowed 6 lakh and 2 lakh at a monthly interest rate of 10% from two accused and 4 lakh from another at a high interest rate. Despite repaying the principal amount along with 9 lakh in interest, the moneylenders allegedly continued to harass him, demanding more money.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
