Pune, February 12, 2026: Newly appointed mayor Manjusha Nagpure has instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately commence pre-monsoon works and ensure they are completed by April 30, citing the pattern of early rainfall in recent years.

Shortly after assuming office, Nagpure initiated a review of major civic projects and wrote to the municipal commissioner seeking a status update on the city’s monsoon preparedness. She asked the administration to evaluate key measures such as desilting of nullahs, disaster management planning and riverfront development initiatives.

Emphasising the urgency, the mayor said the city has experienced flood-like conditions in recent monsoons, along with complaints about delays and inadequate preventive work. She directed that all pre-monsoon activities be launched at the ward level without delay and that regular progress reports be submitted to her office.

Nagpure also asked the civic body to update its list of waterlogging-prone areas and assess the operational readiness of pumping stations. She said she intends to personally inspect locations that frequently face flooding during heavy rains.

In addition, the mayor directed officials to coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure that road excavation and cable-laying projects are planned and finished before the end of April to prevent repeated digging during the monsoon.

She has sought a comprehensive report on riverfront and river rejuvenation projects within three days. After reviewing the findings and ground-level feedback, the mayor’s office will hold a meeting with civic officials to assess progress and address pending issues.
