Pune News: Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Rope Set Up For Tree Pruning Slits Throat In Karve Nagar
Pune, February 12, 2026: A young man sustained serious injuries on Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with a rope stretched across a road in Karvenagar for tree trimming work, officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said.
The incident occurred near Alankar Police Chowky. The injured rider, identified as Rameshwar Avatikar, was travelling with his friend Sudhir Landge when their motorcycle struck the rope, which had been tied across the road as a temporary barrier. Authorities said the two men did not see the obstruction in time.
The rope reportedly hit Avatikar on the neck, causing both riders to lose balance and fall. They were taken to a nearby private hospital, where Avatikarās condition was described as critical.
According to PMCās garden department, Meghraj Society in Karvenagar had received official approval to carry out tree pruning. However, officials alleged that the work was undertaken without prior intimation to the police or civic authorities. They further stated that the contractor failed to implement adequate safety measures and instead used a rope to block the road, creating a serious risk for motorists.
A PMC officer who visited the hospital stated that while permission for tree trimming had been granted, mandatory safety precautions were not followed by the contractor and the housing society.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
