Pune Metro Crosses 1 Lakh Metro Card Milestone, Reflects Rising Public Trust in Smart Travel
Pune Metro has completed Phase 1, with services now operational on the Vanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate corridors. As a reliable mode of public transport in the city, Pune Metro is gaining increasing preference among commuters. Currently, the daily ridership stands at approximately 1.6 lakh passengers.
Expansion work for Phase 1 is already underway, with progress on the PCMC to Nigdi extension, while the tendering process has begun for the Swargate to Katraj underground stretch.
To make ticketing convenient, Pune Metro offers multiple options such as ticket vending machines, WhatsApp ticketing, kiosks, metro cards, and ticket counters. Among these, the ‘Pune Metro Card’ has emerged as the most preferred, comfortable, and modern option.
The ‘One Pune Metro Card’ was launched on August 12, 2023, by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. On April 21, 2025, Pune Metro reached a significant milestone by selling over 1 lakh metro cards — a testament to commuter trust and adoption.
Breakdown of card sales (as of April 21, 2025):
- One Pune Card: 58,277
- Student Pass Card: 23,378
- Non-KYC Card: 18,389
Pune Metro also leads the way in digital payments, with 80% of its revenue generated via digital transactions — the highest among all metro systems in India.
Types of Pune Metro Cards:
- One Pune Card (NCMC Card)
- KYC mandatory, non-transferable
- 10% discount on weekdays, 30% on weekends
- Student Pass Card
- For students only, with documentation required
- 30% daily discount throughout the week
- Non-KYC Card (MTS Card)
- KYC not mandatory, transferable
- Same discounts as One Pune Card
Passengers using metro cards can skip queues by simply tapping the card at AFC gates to enter and exit stations. Fare is automatically deducted based on the distance traveled, making it a quick, time-saving, and eco-friendly solution.
