Pune, June 11, 2026: Pune’s metro network is set for a major expansion, with the first phase of Metro Line 3 expected to begin operations on July 15, significantly improving connectivity between Hinjewadi’s IT hub and Baner.

According to Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, the initial stretch of Metro Line 3 will connect Maan in Hinjewadi to Ramnagar in Baner and include 12 stations. The corridor is expected to provide a crucial public transport link for thousands of commuters travelling to and from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, one of Pune’s largest employment centres.

Before operations begin, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to conduct inspections and safety certification between June 15 and June 20. Depending on the outcome of these inspections, services may commence by the end of June or by the targeted July 15 deadline.

Authorities are also working on improving pedestrian access by constructing wider footpaths leading to the first seven stations. PMRDA officials have stated that four additional stations, including Shivajinagar, are expected to become operational by the end of August, while the entire Metro Line 3 corridor is targeted for completion by December 2026.

To strengthen last-mile connectivity, MahaMetro has partnered with the Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat to introduce dedicated feeder auto-rickshaw services connecting commuters to metro stations across the city. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between stations and nearby residential and commercial areas, making metro travel more convenient.

The feeder service follows MahaMetro’s earlier collaboration with Rapido, which launched connectivity services from Ramwadi Metro Station and is being expanded based on commuter demand.

Currently, Pune Metro operates the PCMC–Swargate and Vanaz–Ramwadi corridors. Officials expect ridership to increase substantially as Metro Line 3 is rolled out in phases over the coming months.

Meanwhile, work is progressing on the extension of Metro Line 1 from Swargate to Katraj, which will become Pune’s first underground metro corridor. Plans are also advancing to extend Metro Line 2 from Ramwadi to Chandani Chowk, further enhancing connectivity in western Pune.

To improve station accessibility, MahaMetro is also constructing pedestrian bridges. A footbridge linking Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station with central city areas is currently under construction, leading to the temporary closure of Bhide Bridge until September. Another pedestrian bridge near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station has already been opened for public use.
