Pune Metro Sees Surge In Ridership With Daily Count Exceeding 90,000

After the inauguration of the route from Ruby Hall Clinic Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station by the Prime Minister on 6 March 2024, the number of metro passengers has continuously increased. In June 2024, the number of daily passengers crossed 90 thousand, with an average of 93,198 passengers traveling by metro daily in June and an average income of Rs. 14,73,648. The response of Pune residents to the Metro is encouraging, and it is definitely helping to reduce vehicular congestion and pollution. 

As of now, out of the 33.2 km route of Pune Metro, 29.58 km have been completed, and work on the remaining 3.62 km is progressing rapidly. This remaining route will also be opened for passengers in the next two to three months. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Metro Station, Pune Railway Metro Station, Ramwadi Metro Station, Vanaz Metro Station, Pune Municipal Corporation Metro Station, and Nal Stop Metro Station are among the stations with an average of more than 5,000 passengers per day. The daily passenger numbers of these stations in June are as per the table below.

If we look at the distribution of the number of passengers on Purple Line 1 (Line 1) from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Metro Station to District Court Metro Station and Aqua Line (Line 2) from Vanaz Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station, 22,097 passengers travel on Line 1 daily in the month of June, while 47,567 passengers travel on Line 2.

On this occasion, Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, said, “In the month of June, the average number of metro passengers has reached more than 90 thousand. This is a very positive change in the public transport of Pune city, and the public transport system is getting stronger.”
