Pune: Monthly Ward-Level Meetings To Tackle Water Supply Complaints Across City
Pune, March 28, 2026: The Divisional Commissioner of Pune, Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, has directed authorities to hold monthly ward-level meetings to address water supply complaints across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and areas under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
The decision was made during a committee meeting convened following a Public Interest Litigation heard by the Bombay High Court in April 2023 regarding water supply issues. Key officials in attendance included Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, Pavneet Kaur, and senior representatives from municipal bodies and housing federations.
Focus on Complaint Resolution at Ward Level
Dr. Pulkundwar emphasized that the majority of water-related complaints should be resolved at the ward level through regular monthly reviews. Authorities were instructed to ensure equitable distribution of water to all housing societies and arrange water tankers where necessary.
Enforcement and Monitoring Measures
Officials were directed to strictly implement the Maharashtra Groundwater Act, ensuring that permissions are obtained for borewells. Water supply guarantee certificates must be uploaded online, and action taken against tankers supplying contaminated water.
Civic Bodies’ Initiatives
Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi highlighted that water issues are being treated as a priority, with infrastructure work on Bhama Askhed and Pavana pipelines already underway. He urged housing federations to report violations by developers and contamination in tanker water.
Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari noted that while PMRDA lacks dedicated water testing facilities, steps will be taken to monitor water quality locally and ensure timely resolution of complaints regarding construction permissions and occupancy issues.
The directive is expected to streamline grievance redressal and improve water management across the rapidly expanding Pune metropolitan region.
