Pune: MSEDCL Restores Power To 98% Of Customers Amidst Heavy Rainfall
Pune, July 26, 2024: Engineers and employees of MSEDCL’s Pune division worked tirelessly to restore power to 1,296 out of 1,327 transformers affected by heavy rains, providing significant relief to approximately 117,365 (97.7%) customers. As of late Friday evening (July 26), efforts were still underway to restore power to about 31 transformers in areas such as Ektanagar on Sinhagad Road, Maval, Lonavala, and others.
On Thursday (July 25), 19 transformers in Ektanagar on Sinhagad Road were submerged due to flooding, leading to a power outage affecting around 65 societies. With the cooperation of the societies, engineers and staff ensured power safety and restored power to 14 transformers by this morning. Of the remaining five, three submerged transformers were damaged and replaced by afternoon with the help of JCBs, while two were kept shut for safety. Approximately 25 societies still have water in their meter rooms, affecting the power supply to about 2,400 customers for safety reasons.
Restoration work is ongoing for 23 transformers in Maval, Bhorgiri, and Karla areas. Mudslides and slippery roads are causing difficulties in the repair work. Efforts to restore power to around 350 customers in Ravet and Kondhwa Dhawade areas continued until late evening.
Heavy rains and water discharge from dams in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities and Mulshi, Maval, and Khed talukas severely impacted the electricity infrastructure in riverbank areas. Falling trees and landslides, along with waterlogged transformers, led to power outages affecting 1,19,865 customers across 26 high-voltage power lines and 1,327 distribution transformers on Thursday (July 25). As a safety measure, power was shut off for 90% of these customers. Once the rain subsided late in the afternoon, MSEDCL began restoring power in phases, ensuring safety in housing societies. By 1 AM on Friday (July 26), power was restored to 1,07,700 customers across 1,182 transformers, and another 9,665 customers had their power restored throughout the day.
Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer of Pune division, along with Superintending Engineers Singhajirao Gaikwad, Yuvraj Jarg, and Arvind Bulbule, visited various locations late into the night, inspected the power infrastructure, and accelerated repair work.
