Pune Mumbai Expressway And Old Pune Mumbai Highway Reports Increased Toll RevenueÂ
Toll booths on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune highway NH4 have seen a significant rise in revenue. In 2024, toll collections reached 1352 million INR, up from 1349 million INR in 2023.
Opposition parties in Maharashtra are demanding the suspension of tolls due to the deteriorating condition of roads. They argue that paying tolls for poorly maintained roads is unfair. Various protests have taken place across the state to support this cause.
Despite these demands, a recent report reveals a notable increase in toll collections. IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd and IRB Infrastructure Trust reported a 32% increase in toll revenue for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. The momentum continued into July 2024, with a 37% year-on-year rise in toll revenue compared to July 2023.
IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd’s toll collection for July 2024 was 499 crore INR, up from 365 crore INR in July 2023. The company confirmed this 37% increase in revenue.
IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd and IRB Infrastructure Trust are leading private infrastructure developers in India. They manage around 80,000 crore INR worth of assets across 12 states.
The rise in toll revenue comes amid ongoing debates and public outcry regarding road conditions, highlighting the tension between infrastructure management and public satisfaction.
