The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to build a new water treatment plant for areas newly merged with the city. This includes Khadakwasla, Nandoshi, Dhayari, and Narhe, which are situated in the upper basin of Pune and face water supply issues.

Residents of these areas have long complained about inadequate water supply, despite paying taxes to PMC. Previously, these areas were governed by local gram panchayats and lacked proper water treatment facilities.

To address this issue, PMC has identified land owned by the Irrigation Department for the new plant. A formal request has been sent to the department to secure the land. PMC has also commissioned a consultant to prepare a feasibility report for the project.

The planned water treatment plant will have a capacity of 170 million liters per day (MLD). This development aims to improve water supply and ensure that residents of these newly merged areas receive consistent and adequate water services.

The establishment of this plant marks a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure and addressing long-standing issues in these parts of the city. The new facility is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the water supply system in Pune’s expanding municipal limits.
