Pune Municipal Commissioner Orders Inspection Of Study Centers After Fire Incident Â
Following a recent fire at a study center in Pune’s central area, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of such centers. After the incident, which occurred in Navi Peth at a facility used by UPSC and MPSC aspirants, concerns about the safety of study centers have come to the forefront. While no injuries were reported, the fire spread quickly due to the presence of books and furniture.
In response, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale has directed the Fire Department to inspect study centers across the city, particularly in areas like Sadashiv Peth, Navi Peth, Narayan Peth, and Shaniwar Peth, where many such centers operate without proper permissions or safety measures.
Joint inspections by the Fire Department and municipal officers have already begun, with notices issued to several centers. The PMC aims to raise awareness about safety requirements and will evaluate if fire safety systems are in place. Additionally, instructions have been given to levy commercial taxes on residential buildings that are being used as study centers. These inspections are intended to ensure student safety and address complaints from local residents.
