PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action against an individual for dumping biomedical waste on a public road in Kothrud. The offender was fined ₹5,000 after being traced through the dumped waste, which was found behind the Cummins Company road.

As part of its cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Mission, PMC has deployed solid waste management officers to monitor sanitation across the city. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale instructed officials to penalize those contributing to public littering. Fines are imposed for offenses such as dumping garbage, spitting, illegal wall graffiti, and not segregating waste.

During an inspection in the Kothrud area, health inspectors Karan Kumbhar and Vaijinath Gaikwad discovered the biomedical waste. By investigating the waste, they traced the person responsible and contacted them. Although the offender admitted to dumping the waste, they initially refused to pay the fine, claiming to be out of town.

The officials warned of a police complaint for endangering public health, prompting the individual to pay the ₹5,000 penalty online. The action was carried out under the supervision of Circle Deputy Commissioner Avinash Sapkal, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam, Assistant Commissioner Vijay Naykal, and Senior Health Inspector Ram Sonawane.
