Pune Municipal Corporation Launches ‘ToiletSeva’ Mobile App for Tracking Public Toilets
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a mobile application called ‘ToiletSeva’ to facilitate easy tracking of public toilets in Pune city. During the app’s inauguration, prominent PMC dignitaries including Additional Municipal Commissioner Kunal Khemnar, Solid Waste Management Chief Asha Raut, and Tax Department Chief Ajit Deshmukh were present.
Amol Bhinge, the App Creator and Director of Intel Corporation, USA, shared his motivation behind developing the app. He explained that several years ago, while shopping at Laxmi Road, he encountered long queues and a lack of basic restroom facilities. Unable to find nearby toilets, he realized the need for a medium to access toilet information. In December 2022, he collaborated with PMC’s Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Asha Raut, Kunal Khemnar, and Ketaki Ghatge to develop the application. With the support of an integrated team, the app development was completed and is now available to the public. The primary objective is to assist people in locating and accessing different types of toilets in Pune, ranging from public toilets to community facilities.
According to PMC, the app not only provides information about toilets in the city but also offers additional features. Users can register feedback about the toilets they use, lodge complaints regarding inadequate facilities or other issues, and even add toilets to the app if they are missing. The app allows sorting and filtering of search results based on various amenities such as wash basins, water availability, liquid soap/sanitizer, dust bins, lights, sanitary napkins, and locations, among others.
Currently, the app has information about 1,183 toilets in the city. By utilizing Google Maps, citizens can easily locate the nearest toilet. The ‘ToiletSeva’ app aims to improve accessibility to sanitation facilities and enhance the overall toilet-going experience for residents and visitors in Pune.
