Pune – Amidst the persistent issue of pothole-riddled roads in the city, the Municipal Corporation faces recurrent shutdowns of its hot mix plant, disrupting vital asphalt repair work. In a bid to provide a lasting solution, the Municipal Corporation has taken the decisive step of allocating five crore rupees to set up a state-of-the-art hot mix plant, alongside refurbishing the existing aging facility.

Residents of Pune have long endured the trials of navigating roads marred by potholes, affecting both major thoroughfares and minor lanes. The city’s road department had previously pledged to initiate pothole repair work post-monsoon season. However, a recent setback occurred when the control panel of the hot mix plant located in Yerwada experienced a malfunction, bringing asphalt production to a halt since Tuesday, the 3rd of this month.

To keep some repair work underway, the Municipal Corporation has temporarily reactivated an older plant, albeit at a slower pace. Nevertheless, the discontinuation of a plant with the capacity to produce a whopping 1000 tonnes of hot mix asphalt per day has posed a significant setback for the municipal authorities. This plant had previously encountered a shutdown in August.

Municipal Commissioner Vikramkumar stated that the repairs to the hot mix plant have been successfully completed, allowing hot mix asphalt production to resume as of today. However, recognizing the need for a more technologically advanced hot mix plant, the Municipal Corporation has committed five crore rupees for the construction of a new facility.

The road department has been promptly instructed to expedite the project. Additionally, plans are in place to modernize and upgrade the existing plant.
