Pune Municipal Corporation To Spend ₹ 8 Crore To Reduce Steep Slope Near Aai Mataji Temple Near Gangadham Chowk
Pune Civic Body To Reduce Dangerous Slope On Busy Gangadham Aai Mata Mandir Road
The Pune municipal corporation has initiated measures to address the dangerous steep slope issue of the road near Aai Mataji Temple, situated between Aai Mataji Chowk in Gangadham and Shatrunjay Temple. Aniruddha Pawaskar, the head of the road department, Pune Municipal Corporation has announced that approximately Rs eight crore rupees will be allocated to reduce the steep gradient to prevent accidents in this area. The road, descending from Upper Indira Nagar to Gangadham, has been notorious for causing vehicles to gain excessive speed as they move from Aai Mataji Temple towards Gangadham Chowk.
The need for this intervention became glaringly evident last month when a tragic accident occurred. A pillion rider on a two-wheeler lost her life after being run over by a dumper at this very spot. The frequency of severe accidents in this area over recent years has underscored the necessity of mitigating the hazardous slope. With heavy vehicles often increasing their speed, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders have been particularly vulnerable to serious accidents.
To tackle this issue, the municipal administration, in collaboration with traffic police, has conducted a thorough examination of the site. Based on their findings, they have decided to proceed with reducing the slope and have prepared an estimate for the project. The initial cost for this work is projected to be eight crore rupees. The approval for this expenditure is expected to be sought soon from the Estimate Committee. Furthermore, the administration plans to commence the project before the code of conduct for the upcoming assembly elections is implemented.
Pawaskar emphasized, “An estimate has been prepared to reduce the steep slope of the road between Aai Mataji Chowk in Gangadham and Shatrunjay Temple. The municipal corporation is attempting to complete this work before the assembly elections.”
The information was also shared by Pune Cantonment Constituency Sunil Kamble shared the information on his X handle. He stated that it is indeed a major project which will curb accidents on this stretch.”
