Pune–Nashik Highway: ₹261 Crore Road Plan To Ease Traffic Congestion
Pimpri, March 20, 2026: Persistent traffic congestion along the Pune–Nashik Highway, particularly in the Chakan area, is set to be addressed through a major infrastructure push by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
Authorities have approved a ₹261 crore project to develop four key “missing links” aimed at reducing bottlenecks and improving connectivity in and around Chakan, a major industrial hub. The initiative is expected to significantly ease traffic at busy junctions such as Talegaon Chowk, Ambethan, and Alandi Phata.
The proposed links include a 900-metre road connecting Hingane Chowk to the Volkswagen facility in Kharabwadi, improving access to MIDC Phase 3. Another 1.2-km stretch from Nanekarwadi to a nearby CNG station will provide direct connectivity to National Highway 60.
A 2.5-km road linking Medankarwadi to Rase Phata will serve as an important connector to the Talegaon–Chakan corridor. In addition, a 60-metre-wide western bypass is planned to connect Chakan MIDC Phase 5 with the old Mumbai–Pune highway.
Currently, commuters—especially industrial workers—often spend up to two hours stuck in traffic during peak hours in the Chakan area. The new routes are expected to provide alternative paths, reduce travel time, and improve traffic flow.
Officials believe the project will also help lower fuel consumption and reduce accidents by separating heavy vehicles from local traffic. Work is expected to be completed within a year after land acquisition, which is currently underway. Unauthorized structures along the proposed routes will be cleared as part of the development plan.
