Pune News: 27 Year Old Woman Dragged And Raped In Khed; Swift Police Action Leads To Arrest
Pune: In a shocking incident reported from Khed’s Medankarwadi area near Chakan, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an unknown man while she was on her way to work for a night shift on May 13. The incident occurred between 11:15 PM and 11:45 PM when the woman was heading towards her workplace. Taking advantage of the darkness, the accused dragged her to a deserted spot behind a school and sexually assaulted and raped her.
The accused, identified as Prakash Tukaram Bhangre, a resident of Medankarwadi and originally from Akole in Ahmednagar district, fled the scene after committing the crime. Before escaping, he threatened to kill the victim if she revealed the incident to anyone.
According to Chakan Police, the woman was passing by the Bhuruk Complex in the Mouthkewadi area when the accused followed her, intercepted her near the Khandoba temple, and forcibly dragged her away. Despite her efforts to scream and resist—including biting the accused—he overpowered her. Fortunately, a nearby worker couple heard her and helped her contact the police through emergency services.
The police rushed to the spot and admitted the victim to YCM Hospital for treatment.
Taking swift action, Chakan police formed six special teams with support from the Pimpri-Chinchwad crime branch. Using CCTV footage and technical analysis, they identified and arrested the accused within a few hours. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
The incident has sparked outrage in the locality, reigniting concerns over women’s safety, especially during night shifts. Although police action was prompt and has brought some relief to residents, the community is demanding stricter measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
