Pune News: Amit Thackeray Visits Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel, Criticizes PMC’s Negligence Over Dengue Outbreak
Amit Thackeray, President of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNV Sena), recently visited Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel at Ghole Road in Pune, following the death of a student due to dengue. Around 60 students from the hostel were admitted to hospitals for dengue and chikungunya infections.
During his visit, Thackeray expressed his disappointment with the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) handling of the situation, highlighting issues such as lack of sunlight, proper ventilation, and clean drinking water in the hostel. He criticized the inefficiency of PMC officials and pointed out the potential for a hostel that could accommodate 1,000 students in the future.
Thackeray assured that he would meet with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to address concerns related to the hostel’s facilities, student health, and safety. He also promised that financial compensation would be provided to the families of the two students who succumbed to dengue.
At the time, the PMC’s Social Welfare Department’s Deputy Commissioner Nitin Udas was questioned about why improvements hadn’t been made earlier and why action was only being taken after protests by MNV Sena.
MNV Sena leaders including Prashant Kanojia, Advocate Kishor Shinde, Narendra Tamboli, Advocate Sachin Pawar, Ashish Sable, Ketan Dongre, Subodh Ghodke, Sanket Jadhav, Akshay Chole, and Ujwal Kamble were present during the visit.
