Pune: Maharashtra Government had issued an official notification on March 31, announcing the formation of a new municipal council for Uruli Devachi nd Fursungi, thereby demerging them from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). However, this decision has met with opposition from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Prashant Badhe, Ujjwal Keskar and Suhas Kulkarni.

According to BJP leader Ujjwal Keskar, “The decision of dropping Fursungi and Uruli Devachi from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is a decision made due to pressure from the former Minister of Maharashtra Vijay Shivtare. And we are opposing this decision, if a separate Municipal Council will be made then what will be the revenue generation of these Municipal Councils. However, in the notification issued by the State Government these details are not mentioned. Our only demand is that citizens should not be affected.”

BJP leader Suhas Kulkarni expressed concerns about the potential impact on municipal taxes, funds, and facilities, stating, “Municipal taxes, municipal funds are fixed. If the Municipal Council comes up then these facilities will not be available. Earlier there was demand to make two different Municipal Corporations in Pune but now if a different Municipal Council is formed then it won’t help.”
