Pune: A former hotel manager has been booked for allegedly siphoning off ₹31.62 lakh by using his personal QR code to collect payments from customers. The accused, identified as Amol Arjun Bhusale, a resident of Harshvardhan Complex in Shivane, is said to have committed the fraud while working at the cash counter of Katakirrr Hotel in Erandwane between 2019 and 2024.

The complaint was filed by Vijay Prabhakar Awati, the hotel’s owner and a resident of Karishma Society in Kothrud. According to police, Bhusale accepted payments for dine-in and takeaway orders through his personal payment scanner instead of the hotel’s official system. In some cases, he also failed to issue food tokens, which further helped him conceal the misappropriation.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Sub-inspector Dattatreya Sawant from Deccan Police Station stated that Bhusale who is no longer employed at the hotel and now runs his own eatery, came under suspicion when a customer contacted Awati regarding an online payment made for a misal pav order. The payment was traced to a number linked to Bhusale, raising immediate red flags.

An internal audit revealed inconsistencies between the number of food tokens issued and the corresponding payments received. This discrepancy helped uncover the large-scale embezzlement.

Police have registered a case against Bhusale and are in the process of issuing an enquiry notice as investigations continue.
