Pune News: Hinjawadi Likely To Be Included In Corporation Limits; Maharashtra Government Gives Green Signal
The Maharashtra government has approved the long-pending demand to include Hinjawadi in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. The move aims to address long-standing civic issues faced by residents due to the lack of unified governance.
Currently, Hinjawadi falls under multiple agencies such as MIDC, PMRDA, local gram panchayats, and the PWD, leading to coordination issues and stalled development. Despite being a major IT hub, the area still struggles with basic infrastructure like roads, water supply, and waste management. The decision is expected to streamline administration and improve civic services.
The inclusion proposal, first introduced in 2015, had been stuck with the state government for nearly a decade. Now, with the green signal, the process of integrating Hinjewadi along with nearby villages like Marunji, Maan, Nere, Sangawade, Jambhe, and Gahunje into PCMC will begin soon.
Meanwhile, IT professionals and residents launched the “Unclog Hinjawadi” signature campaign to push for the merger. Over 16,000 people have participated, and the petition will soon be presented to the Chief Minister.
Concerns Among Locals:
- Fear of land reservations by PCMC
- Delays in development after inclusion
- Worries about municipal control over local decisions
- Farmers concerned about not receiving fair compensation for land
Despite opposition from some local groups, many residents and IT workers support the move, hoping for improved infrastructure and better governance.
