Pune: Commuters are facing a lot of inconveniences as one of the sides of the Pashan Sus Road Bridge is closed to vehicular traffic for a couple of months. As a result, vehicles are forced to use only one side of the road which leads to bottlenecks.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Amit Kasar, a Resident, of Sus Road said, “The earlier bridge of Pashan Sus Road was very narrow. So, its width was increased for smooth traffic movement. Also, provisions were made for vehicles to get on the highways. From the Pashan side, if you take the left you will go towards Bavdhan & Chandani Chowk. If you want to take the right you will go towards the Wakad side. The bridge is 1 km long. If someone wants to go to the highway from the Pashan side towards Wakad, that person has to take a right turn after crossing the bridge. That right turn was open earlier. But the PMC has closed that right turn citing traffic reasons. Hence, the regular commuters from that side have to take a long route or drive from the wrong side. Traffic wardens are there but it is of no use. Closure is not the solution. Traffic signals or speed breakers must be installed. The right-hand exit is completely closed. I asked the PMC and they say that a land dispute is going on so it is closed. We are facing this issue for the last six months. Nothing is done about it.”

Kunal Yadav, Resident, Sus Road said, “The issues of wrong-side driving & excess traffic have become a common problem due to the right-hand exit being closed for a long time now. Due to that, 1 or 2 accidents have also taken place on the bridge.”

Ninad Abhang, Resident, Sus Road said, “The bridge has become narrow. Divider is packed. There is wrong side driving for around 500 m. I have witnessed 2 to 4 accidents happening due to this. There is no other convenient or nearest road to go to Sus gaon, highway & other directions. We have to be very vigilant due to the wrong side driving as the entrance slope of our building opens directly on the road bridge.”

Babasaheb Koli, Police Inspector, Chatuhshrungi Traffic Department said, “Earlier, there were only 2 traffic wardens on the bridge. However, due to the increasing wrong side driving on Pashan Sus Road bridge, we will soon appoint a full-time patrolling unit for that area.”

Srinivas Bonala, Chief Engineer (Project Department) PMC said, “There are a lot of pits on the road after the right side exit is taken. Hence, PMC is working on that part. Also, the land dispute between PMC and the previous land owner, of the area near the right-side exit, is cleared now and we have got possession of it. Concretizing work is going on &, after 15 to 20 days, the exit will be open for traffic again.”
