Wanwadi: In a shocking incident, the body of an infant buried at Bagenoor Burial Ground in Ramtekdi has gone missing.

According to the police, Naseem Nazir Shaikh (65), a resident of Sureshnagar, Hadapsar, reported that his granddaughter, Afisa Altaf Shaikh (20) from Sangola, Solapur, gave birth to a stillborn baby on March 1 at Sonawane Hospital in Kashewadi. The infant was buried as per rituals at Bagenoor Cemetery in Ramtekdi.

However, five days later, a local resident, Farooq Sheru Shaikh, who had gone to the cemetery for prayers, noticed that the grave had been dug up and the infant’s body was missing. He immediately informed the family, bringing the incident to light.

Following a complaint by Naseem Shaikh, the Wanwadi Police have registered a case under IPC Section 301 (2023) and have launched an investigation, confirmed Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Adamane.

Despite security personnel being appointed at cemeteries and burial grounds by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), this incident has raised questions about the inefficiency and negligence of the administration.
