Pune: Mango, known as the king of fruits, is the center of attention as the much-awaited mango season has arrived. However, this year, there is a concern among mango sellers regarding the impact of climate change on the availability and prices of mangoes.

Mandar Desai, owner of Desai Bandhu Ambewale, shared his insights on the current situation, saying, “The prices of mangoes are ranging from ₹ 800 to ₹1400, depending on the type of mango. Although the number of mangoes available this time is less, we do not expect the prices to rise.”

He further explained that despite the lower availability, they have managed to keep the prices stable.

On the other hand, another mango seller on Bajirao road Surve Bandhu Ambewale revealed that they are selling mangoes at ₹1000. However, he expressed concerns about potential price increases due to climate change. “If the weather patterns change drastically, it may affect the availability and prices of mangoes,” he stated.

The impact of climate change on mango production has been a growing concern among farmers and traders. Unpredictable weather conditions, including irregular rainfall patterns and extreme temperatures, can adversely affect the flowering and fruiting process of mango trees, leading to reduced yields and increased prices.

In recent years, climate change has been recognized as a significant threat to agriculture, including the mango industry. As mangoes are highly dependent on favorable weather conditions during flowering and fruiting stages, any disruption in weather patterns can affect their production and subsequently impact prices in the market.
